Vic: Tougher water restrictions loom for Melbourne
Tougher water restrictions are looming for Melbourne in spite of a radical reductionin average daily water use over Easter.
Melbourne Water recorded this week's average daily water use at 1,110 million litres, about 400 million litres below the average daily water use for this year.
Despite the reductions water storages in Melbourne's four major catchments have droppedin the past week to 42 per cent.
A Melbourne Water spokeswoman says the city looks set to have stage 2 restrictionsimposed if there's no substantial rainfall in the next month.
Stage 1 restrictions have been in place since November.
Stage 2 restrictions would prohibit lawn watering and only allow people to water theirgardens with handheld hoses or watering cans.
