Vic: Train delays will cause congestion for footy fans
Rail authorities in Melbourne say fans at today's Melbourne football matches should
expect delays and congestion on trains after the games finish.
Bayside and Hillside train representatives say services will be running without the
extra trains usually scheduled to cope with football crowds.
Hillside says up to 10 extra trains normally run after Saturday and Sunday matches
at the MCG and Colonial Stadium.
And a Bayside spokeswoman says it won't be able to run all of its planned extra trains
for the football today.
But she says the company will run six-carriage trains on all its normal services to
try to limit passenger congestion.
A shortage of drivers is believed responsible for the curtailed services, due to matters
currently before the Australian Industrial Relations Commission.
Hawthorn is playing Essendon at the MCG this afternoon and the Western Bulldogs are
taking on Carlton at Colonial Stadium.
Both games are scheduled to finish at about 5 o'clock.
